The Chinese Gardens
The Chinese Gardens are an example of a late Ming, early Ching Dynasty scholar's garden. Surrounded by a 4 metre high wall, the garden and buildings were built using authentic Chinese handmade tiles and bricks and was crafted by a team of artisans from Shanghai. These gardens are tribute to the historical significance that the Chinese population has in Dunedin and Otago, as well as recognise our relationship with our Sister City Shanghai.


The Botanical Gardens
The Dunedin Botanical Gardens offer a vast variety of exotic and native plant collections to help spark the imagination of gardeners everywhere. The Aviary has over 200 bird species spread over four large flights. This aviary also has a co-ordinated captive breeding programme, contributing to the longevity of birds from both New Zealand and abroad.


The Speights Brewery
Come and take a 90- minute interactive and informative tour through a working brewery and New Zealand heritage site. Come see, smell, and taste the Pride of the South.

The World's Steepest Street (Baldwin Street)
No visit to Dunedin would be complete without at trip to the famous Baldwin Street. With a 35% gradient it is recognized by Guinness as the world's steepest. Have your photo taken at the top and visit the souvenir shop.

University of Otago
Founded in 1869 it is New Zealand's oldest and most prestigious university teaching approx 20,000 students each year. This exciting mix of academic heritage and modern thinking meld together to create an atmosphere not to be missed.

The Dunedin Railway Station
A jewel in the country's architectural crown, a picture of the Dunedin Railway Station truly is worth 1000 words. Currently the departure point of the Taieri Gorge Railway train, it also homes the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame and a fine restaurant and bar.

A tour of Olveston allows an intimate glimpse of the lifestyle of a privileged family in early 1900's. With an acre of manicured grounds built between 1904 and 1906 this reflects a lifestyle enjoyed by just a few. This home has a lift, central heating and a telephone system. A true step back in time.

Otago Boys High School
Founded on August 3rd, 1863, Otago Boys' High School is one of New Zealand's oldest boys' secondary schools. The original beautiful heritage buildings were designed by Robert Lawson and are thought of as one of the finest gothic revival structures in New Zealand.

St Paul's Cathedral
St Paul's Cathedral was built between 1915 and 1919 in the neo-gothic style of architecture. Built entirely of Oamaru Stone, the stained glass windows were made in England and donated by wealthy pioneering families.

Larnach Castle & Gardens
Discover New Zealand's only castle with stunning breathtaking views of Otago Harbour and of the castle grounds. Built in 1871 by famous merchant and politician William Larnach, it took over 200 workman 3 years to build the exterior and master European craftsmen 12 years to do the interior. This castle features the finest construction materials from around the world.

The Royal Albatross Colony
Experience a tour of the diverse features of Tairoa Head, an area unique in the world for the rich variety and of bird and marine life to be found including Blue Penguins, Fur Seals, Sea Lions and the rare Stewart Island Shag to name a just few. Beneath this reserve lies the tunnels of Fort Tairoa, built to counter a perceived threat to Dunedin from Tsarist Russia. These feature the only working Armstrong Disappearing Gun (1886) of its type left in the world.


Glenfalloch Woodland Gardens (Gaelic for Hidden Valley)
Established from 1871 these tranquil, beautiful, much loved gardens are classified as a garden of national significance. Enjoy the peace, serenity and brilliant harbour views.
