The Chinese Gardens
The Chinese Gardens are an example of a late Ming, early Ching Dynasty scholar’s garden. Surrounded by a 4 metre high wall, the garden and buildings were built using authentic Chinese handmade tiles and bricks and was crafted by a team of artisans from Shanghai. These gardens are tribute to the historical significance that the Chinese population has in Dunedin and Otago, as well as recognise our relationship with our Sister City Shanghai.
The Botanical Gardens
The Dunedin Botanical Gardens offer a vast variety of exotic and native plant collections to help spark the imagination of gardeners everywhere. The Aviary has over 200 bird species spread over four large flights. This aviary also has a co-ordinated captive breeding programme, contributing to the longevity of birds from both New Zealand and abroad.

The World’s Steepest Street
(Baldwin Street)
No visit to Dunedin would be complete without at trip to the famous Baldwin Street. With a 35% gradient it is recognized by Guinness as the world’s steepest. Have your photo taken at the top and visit the souvenir shop.
